About Canterbury Cottages
At Canterbury Cottages, we believe in providing high-quality, customizable second dwellings that are built with care and craftsmanship. Born from the success and demand we experienced at Pete’s Construction for second dwellings, we decided to create a dedicated brand focused solely on bringing these versatile living spaces to life. With inquiries pouring in, we saw the opportunity to help Cantabrians create more space at home in a way that was both affordable and beautifully built.
Led by Pete, a proud Warriors and Crusaders fan raising two daughters just outside of West Melton, Canterbury Cottages is a family business that’s deeply rooted in our local community. We understand the unique needs of families, which is why we’ve carefully designed nine cottage plans, ranging from 30sqm to 60sqm, to suit various lifestyles and budgets.

From start to finish, we’re with you every step of the way, and our prices reflect that. We don’t add extra costs for middlemen or inflated subcontractor fees—just honest, high-quality work.
We also offer the flexibility to build on-site. This approach is a huge cost-saver compared to other companies that build cottages in a yard and transport them to you. While the process of building off-site in their own yard is a lot cheaper for the business, it adds a whole lot more cost to your final bill. That’s why we champion building on-site – more affordable and convenient choice.
When it comes to timelines, we pride ourselves on efficiency. We try to offer an accurate timeline of the build before we commence works, and regularly communicate throughout the project how we are tracking.
